I suppose in the US 'serviette' is pretentious because it sounds deliberately foreign."

Кейт Фокс, грубо перефразируя, говорит, что 'serviette' употребляют те, которые не дотягивают на самом деле до среднего и выше класса, чтобы казатья "posh" :)
